Beauty salons these days go far beyond simply cutting hair. Typically, your neighborhood salon is considered more of a spa offering services ranging from haircut, manicure and pedicure, facial aesthetic, massage, and even oxygen therapy.

A barber shop generally sticks to cutting hair, giving shaves, and trimming beards. You won't normally find the range in services that will be found in a salon or spa.

For either business, you will need to apply for licenses and permits. As with the purchase of any business, advice of a business broker and attorney is invaluable.
